X-rays were seen for the first time in 1895 by Wilhelm Conrad Roentgen, who was a professor in Germany. He worked in his laboratory with a cathode-ray tube that allowed him to look at the glow of crystals that were inside the tube. The prototype that he was working with had a glass bulb as well as positive and negative electrodes that were a part of it. What that meant was that there was air that was sucked out of the tube when there was an increase in voltage. After this process, there would then be a glow that would ensure that it was possible to see light from the tube even a few feet away.
From his studies, he saw that there was light that was coming from the tube and that it was unlike anything else that he had seen. The ray that he observed was able to pass through any heavy paper and was also there with all of the chemicals in the room. This showed the amazing nature of the structure. Roentgen saw that it was possible as well to see that the ray would pass through people as well and cast shadows of anything that was solid. What this meant was that it was possible to see inside machines as well as people. His first major project was an X-ray of the hand of his wife. Many of the first uses of radiography were for industrial and not medical use.

X-rays are the best way to know what is going on inside a person, and that means that they are the go to solution when it comes to making sure that people have an idea of what is happening. What this means is that a doctor will order an X-ray when it is necessary to look at a bone or a fracture or to know what is going on inside. NDT Equipment is much improved since the past and radiography has come a long way since 1895; it is possible to have instant results and know what can be fixed in a matter of moments now with the modern x-ray. In the past, this was not the case, and the NDT equipment was at best slow and took many minutes to develop. Now this process is instant, and it means that it is possible to know what needs to be fixed right away.
