Welcome to the World of Sachet Packaging When it comes to single serve packaging, the sachet is the most common form. The sachet is a made from a laminate that is made from either a thin plastic, plastic with an aluminum inside (like with medicines and food condiments), or mylar (a specially made polyester film that has been stretched). Inside these packages you can find all sorts of products like food and condiments, medicines, cosmetics, cleaning agents, and even fragrances. When the product is placed between the laminates, it runs through a machine to create a seal to protect it from outside pathogens that could compromise the integrity of the product. Why Is Sachet Packaging Required?
Have you ever gotten a packet of coupons in the mail and to your surprise, you’ve received a sample of the newest product that your favorite brand has created? Or you go to the grocery store and see that there is a single use package of cold medicine for you to try in conjunction with the daytime medicine. Companies use single use sachet packaging as a part of their marketing strategies. It is the belief that by giving you a free sample of a product for you to try, it will enhance the probability that you will buy that product in the future. This kind of marketing is pretty ingenious because who doesn’t like free stuff—even if it is only a single use?
Aside from a marketing stand point though, let’s look at sachet packaging from a practical point of view. How many times have you let your kids go up to the counter at your fast food chain and they had the condiments in one of those pump dispensers? They probably made quite a mess because the pumps never seemed to work quite right. Plus you can never be too sure how frequently those containers were actually cleaned. Who knows what kind of bacteria could be growing in those things!
For fast food companies and institutions, it makes a lot of sense to use products in sachet packaging. It eliminates the possibility of consumers wasting the product (how many times have you pumped out three of those little containers of ketchup and only used 1 and a half?) and it also ensures the product is safe for consumption. Sure, the product in bulk is cheaper than a sachet, but in the long run, you will save money because it helps with portion control.
Products like cleaning chemicals also can come in sachet packaging. These products help make consumers lives easier. It takes the guess work out of how much dish detergent you should put into the dishwasher or how much floor cleaner you should put into the bucket of hot water. Plus by using sachet packaging for cleaners, it can be seen as a safety precaution too. How many times have you had to break out the scissors on the sachet because you couldn’t open it? Now if you can’t open it, a child will not be able to open it.
Why, if you think about it, not only is sachet packaging a great marketing scheme but it is excellent for portion control, protecting the integrity of the product inside the packaging from outside contaminates, but also can act as a child safety measure, too.
